Terroir

La Rose Pauillac represents a cross-section of the various terroirs in Pauillac.

The soil consists of sand, pebbles, and clay – as well as the famous fine gravel deposited by the Garonne centuries ago. This gravel not only retains heat from the daytime sunshine, slowly releasing it at night, but also encourages the vine roots to sink several metres deep into the ground to find nourishment.
This meagre soil, and a microclimate whose temperature is regulated by the immense Gironde estuary, provide a unique situation that has always benefited the vines that produce La Rose Pauillac.

Grape varieties :
Cabernet Sauvignon is king in Pauillac. This late-ripening red wine variety is famous for the quality of its tannins, its powerful blackcurrant aromas, and its great ageing potential.
Cabernet Sauvignon : the most widely planted variety at La Rose Pauillac, produces tannic, well-structured, rich wines that can be austere in the youth, but become outstanding with age.
Aromas : ripe blackcurrant, forest floor, vanilla, fruit, and pepper.
Cabernet Franc : this variety accounts for nearly 10% of all vines. It produces very aromatic, richly perfumed wines.
Merlot : this variety contributes a very deep colour as well as a characteristic bouquet and delicious flavour, as intense on the nose as on the palate. It makes the final blend more round and smooth.
Aromas : red fruit, leather, and spices.
Petit Verdot : this variety represents only a tiny proportion of La Rose Pauillac. Rich in anthocyanins, it also provides structure and a bright, deep colour. It is an important component of the assemblage , or final blend.
Aromas : liquorice.
